Task, Ambient, and Accent Lighting Explained
Most rooms need three things: general light to fill the space, task light for focused work, and accent light to add depth or highlight something worth seeing. When all three layers are present, the room looks intentional. When one's missing, it usually feels off even if you can't say why.
We've installed lighting in kitchens where the overhead fixture was fine but the counters were dark. We've done living rooms where every lamp was maxed out but the ceiling still felt cave-like. Getting the layering right is the difference between a room that works and one that just has lights in it.
Recessed Lighting and Fixture Placement
Recessed lighting is one of the most requested installs we do in Mt Prospect, IL homes. It cleans up a ceiling, removes the need for bulky fixtures, and gives you a lot of control over how a room is lit. But spacing and aim matter more than most people expect. Cans that are too close together create hot spots. Cans aimed wrong wash a wall instead of lighting a surface.
We measure the room, account for furniture placement, and plan the grid before anything goes into the ceiling. That extra step saves a lot of frustration after the drywall is closed.
