Lombard is a well-established DuPage County suburb with a mix of post-war ranches, split-levels, and newer construction near the downtown corridor along Main Street and St. Charles Road. The Lilacia Park neighborhood draws people to the area every spring, and the homes around there tend to be older, charming, and in need of smart updates that preserve their character. Neighborhoods like Old Lombard and the areas around Westmore-Meyers have seen steady reinvestment as homeowners choose to stay and improve rather than move.
The climate here is hard on homes. Lombard gets the same brutal Chicago-area winters that freeze and thaw foundations, push moisture into basements, and crack grout lines in bathrooms. Summers bring humidity that warps trim and stresses older ventilation. Homes built in the 1950s through 1970s, which make up a big share of the Lombard housing stock, were not built to handle modern moisture loads or accessibility needs. Those two realities, aging homes and harsh weather, drive most of the remodeling calls we get from Lombard residents.
